| You see, Auburn is the tigers but they chant "War Eagle". There's some old story about an eagle flying over the stadium at a game once, but I'm not too familiar with it. But they do have an eagle at every home game that they let fly around the stadium while everyone chants "war eagle". - Matt M. Here's the deal about Auburn and their little "War Eagle" chant/battle cry. Early 1900's in one of the very first meetings between Auburn and Georgia (The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry), Auburn trailed by a significant amount of pionts heading to the fourth quarter. At that time, an eagle began to fly in cirlces around the stadium. Auburn came back, and won the game on the final drive. A newspaper journalist used the term, and it stuck. - Chris Y. | |
